Bob Smith is a highly experienced trial lawyer and trusted advisor to individuals
and a diverse group of corporate and institutional clients in a variety

Trials and Appeals in Civil Actions
Smith focuses his practice on civil litigation, having successfully conducted
trials and argued appeals in state and federal courts, including business
disputes, commercial matters, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary
duty, claims of employment discrimination, disability discrimination,
wrongful death, sexual abuse, and catastrophic personal injuries.
Independent Investigations
Smith is often called upon by institutions and their legal counsel to conduct
independent investigations of misconduct including, but not limited to,
Title IX; sexual harassment; sexual assault; breach of fiduciary duty
and other misconduct by employees including college presidents; faculty
members; athletic coaches; and security officers. He also represents clients
in connection with regulatory agency and other external investigations.
Certified Mediator
As a certified mediator, Smith brings decades of experience and knowledge
across the full spectrum of legal issues and thoroughly enjoys helping
the parties to disputes and civil actions resolve their differences and
settle their claims, thus avoiding the further expense, delay, and risks
associated with litigation.
Education
Smith received his Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University College
of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York's New School
for Social Research. At Syracuse, he was an instructor in Legal Research
and Writing; a member of the National Appellate Moot Court Team and served
on the Law Review staff. He also interned with the Onondaga County District
Attorney for 2 years.
Prior Experience
Prior to founding DeMoura | Smith LLP, Smith was a partner in two multi-state
law firms. For 13 years, Smith was Associate General Counsel at Boston
University, the nation’s fourth-largest private university. He also
served as Chief of Staff to the President of BU.
A well-respected presenter, Smith regularly speaks at national and regional
law conferences, as well as on national webcasts.
