Advances in science have called eyewitness testimony, once considered the
gold-standard of evidence, into question in recent years. Courts have
shown a greater willingness to permit expert testimony on the reliabiliity
of eyewitness accounts and the variables that can affect the ability to
observe and recall an event.
On November 30, 2018, DeMoura|Smith partner Ken DeMoura spoke about challenging
eyewitness testimony and its reliability using science, during Renaissance
Symposium XIV at the Harvard Club of New York City. The title of his presentation
was “As Far As The Eye Can See: Challenging Eye-Witness Testimony
With Science.” The slide presentation is available
here.
Conducted by the Litigation Counsel of America, Renaissance Symposium XIV
continues the LCA’s exclusive, advanced, small-group lecture series,
on trial tactics and strategy. Sixteen trial attorneys and trial consultants
present at the Symposium. The full-day immersive format is designed to
encourage personal interaction about superior trial techniques and ideas
and a robust exchange among the speakers and ten additional, accomplished
trial attorneys. LCA Fellows come to the Renaissance Symposium to exchange
trial tactics and techniques of the highest order. This is Ken’s
fourth time presenting at the Renaissance Symposium for the LCA.
