US District Court for Mass Delays Jury Trials Until May 29 and Issues New Covid19/Coronavirus Orders

The United States District Court for Massachusetts has postponed all jury trials until after May 29 due to the public health emergency created by the Covid19/Coronavirus pandemic. The order, issued by Chief Judge Dennis Saylor can be read here. In addtion to this order, the Court has also issued orders Postponing Grand Juries until at least May 29 and permitting the Court to conduct felony plea and sentencing hearings and other criminal hearings or proceedings by video or telephone conference with consent of the defendant. On March 12, 2020, the Court issued an Order restricting visitor access to the federal courthouses located in Boston, Worcester and Springfield. That order remains in effect.
